Nigeria Approves Inclusion Of NYSC Corps Members In Health Scheme

The Federal Executive Council
(on Wednesday approved the
inclusion of members of the
National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC) in the National Health
Insurance Scheme (NHIS) across
the country.

Speaking to State House corres-
pondents after the council’s
meeting presided over by the
Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo,
at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac
Adewole, said the approval was
given in order to put a stop to
unnecessary deaths being
recorded among youth corps
members across the country.
His Said:

“The other memorandum has to
do with how we will prevent
unnecessary death among youth
corps members across the country.

henceforth, we will include NYSC
members in the National Health
Insurance Scheme across the

The development is coming on the
back of the death of a corps member,
Miss Ifedolapo Oladepo at the Kano
State Orientation Camp last year
while Ukeme Asuquo also died at
the orientation camp in Zamfara

Adewole said the council also
approved the renewal of the
MoU between his ministry and
the United Nations Fund for
Population Activities on the
procurement and distribution
of contraceptives commodities
across the country.

“The Federal Government has the
policy of free distribution of cont-
raceptives commodities and
services across the country.

“We have renewed the MoU today
(Wednesday) to last for the next
four years between 2017 and 2020.
And that we also continue to
provide effective safe voluntary
contraceptives services across
the country,” he said.
